Ah, the Alamo
This is definitely my favorite movie theatre in KC.
I am never disappointed with their food choices or drink selections. The staff is always really fast and friendly. Their movie selections are super awesome. And to top it all off they validate parking!
They have a bar area in the front which is not only cool for waiting on your group to show, but every so often they hold special events either related to a movie-release or just for fun!
I do always expect to spend a chunk of money here, though, especially if I'm eating in. Before moving to KC I had never heard of a theatre that you eat at where the staff brings you your food during the movie, so naturally I was excited to try this. Once I did I was hooked. Now I go more than my wallet says I should, but it's always worth it.
Up at the ticket counter they often sell really neat collectibles such as shirts, glasses & even pins!
I don't think I've ever been disappointed coming here. Even if I am disappointed with the movie, everything else makes up for it. -

This has been my go-to theater for the better part of a year now due to the fact that it's the only one downtown. Overall it's fine, but it pales in comparison to other Alamo Drafthouses I've been to throughout the country. There's a weird smell when you walk into the lobby and the theaters don't feel particularly nice/clean. Also the servers never take away your dishes when you're finished eating so you're stuck with dirty plates in front of you for the rest of the movie.
My main complaint though is about the last movie I saw here, "The Farewell." This was a foreign language movie with only about 20% of the dialogue being in English. Unfortunately, whenever the subtitles went on to two lines the bottom half off the second line was cut-off. Luckily it was still legible, but this was very frustrating and annoying from a theater that prides itself on being geared towards cinema-lovers. I hope I can expect better in future visits. -

I honestly think it's overpriced for what you get. There are certain screens that have fancy memory foam seating but then there's squeaky seats that are very uncomfortable... the problem, both screens are the same price. I wish they would offer different price levels based on the screen room you are in.
The movie nights are fun and are always packed, recommend booking in advance.
They offer full menu restaurant options in case you want to eat dinner and watch the movie. They also offer normal movie items such as popcorn. -

This theater is unlike any other, so take what you will with that knowledge in mind. They bring whatever you need from their extensive menu directly to you seat, and from what I tried, they do great work. The theater is a bit of a specialty shop, in that they play old films, obscure film series, and current films among many others.
The problem I found lies in the design of both their unique business model, and of the actual theaters. No one would ever claim the seating in the Alamo Drafthouse is comfortable - quite the contrary. Additionally, the counters designed to maintain whatever it is you've ordered places the various bowls and cups directly across the bottom of the screen. It's a bit distracting, especially when servers use their personal gangway behind the seats just in front of yours to deliver purchases and bills of said purchases; they time their intrusions appropriately, but if you were into the scene, you now see a man shuffling by your large cup you hadn't noticed seconds before.
It's an interesting place, but the seating arrangement is strict, the servers are everywhere, and it is close-quarters combat to be sure. For the cost, and for lack of imbibing the fluid of hops and spirits myself, I wouldn't return. Interesting though.
Check out the top floor echo under the dome - it's worth a jaunt up their three escalators. The second floor maintains a wonderful view of power and light, and if you check in on yelp as of this review, they'll toss you a free bowl of clarified butter popcorn - very posh! -

I really enjoy their movie events and special offerings. Went for the Toy Story 4 premier. Theater is great, good food.
The mushroom pizza was the best.
